If you mean drinking bars and clubs then no, you'd have to be over 18 years of age. You could DJ for under 16's clubs though, youth clubs etc. You could also become a professional DJ to hire for parties and special occasions, providing that you had an adult with you. The only other option for you would be to DJ from home using programs and software on your computer for online radios. Steven Collins

Good choice on the house music!

It's probably the most straightforward genre of music to mix as well. I would definitely look into getting turntables or CD turntables. It makes adjusting the tempo of tracks more under your control. Beatmatching is where you should definitely start off with. In order for your mixes to sound smooth, you need to make sure your tracks are matched to the same tempo.

Technics are always a good choice for a turntable, but it may be pricy for some. So there are other alternatives out there, just make sure you get a direct-drive turntable and not a belt-drive.

CD turntables are great if you want to play music from your mp3's and not buy vinyl, but it doesnt beat the feel of 12" wax! trust me, once you mix with vinyl, you wont want to go back. but if finance is an issue, a controller might be your best bet. You'll find yourself wanting to upgrade to CD turntables or actual turntables once you get more experienced.

For more information on DJ equipment (specifically related to house music) take a look at:

Hopefully you can find some more answers there.

Happy mixing! Matt

wow .. well do you plan on using controllers or actual tables with vinyls... theres a lot! of researching to be done wheather you know what u want or not..... If i were you id go to guitarcenter.com and look at different tables/ controllers to see what you want and what is in your price range.. or possible head out to a local music store (guitar center) and ask a professional and talk to them about what you like what you will be doing and what youd like to do in the future.. they are very helpful and typically get you going on what you want and need ,, even within a decent price range....

here are some other tips aswell!!

1. Depending on the type of Turntable it might or might not come with Vinyls that are specifically made for it.. Some programs such as Traktor come with Vinyl to put on your Turntable..

2.Most djs that take their Laptops with them is because their music library is all on there.. They connect their turntables to the Computer to load the track into each deck (turntable).. They use the vinyls mainly for scratching, ff , beatmatching, and sometimes as a jogwheel.. They vinyls are not mainly used for just playing the track...

3. Having 2 turntables is a main helper because A. you can have one track playing for everyone and in the other table your listenin with your eadphones to match the beat with the other track and get ready to mix the songs together. B.you can play the track from one table and scratch a sample or song from the other turntable. Using the crossfader to mix the tracks back and forth..

4. You don't necessarily have to use a program with djing but its more often then not that whoever is djing has a computer with Traktor, Reason, Ableton Live, or some other program especially if whoever is djing is using a "Controller" such as the "VCI-100" rather than turntables such as a "Pioneer"..

I Hoped this helped :)

Kim,

Your DJ is going to set up early, ask him if he would be willing to just put on some simple instrumental music while your guest arrive from 6-8pm. I am sure he will be willing to do the simple introductions as you and your wedding party arrive to your venue. He may possibly do it for nothing, or for a few extra dollars. If you want to negotiate with him, tell him you will put his business cards at each table, or on the hor dourve's table for your guests. Vendors are always looking for free advertising and getting his cards in all those hands will be well worth him sticking in a CD while he finishes setting up!

Good Luck!

The average pay for a good DJ in the UK is 50 pounds and hour. So a 4 hour night is 200 pounds.
If you have a very big crowd you may want to pay more. Here in the states I get 10% of gross sales. It averages out to $325 a night or 210 pounds a night. DJ Cam

well how many hours does he play for? I say 8 bucks an hour is a good pay and depending on how many hours he plays for you multiple 8 by the numbers of hours and you'll get the pay.. ex he works 12 hours each day that's 24 days so 8 times 24 is 192 or you could just give him 200 bucks a night, that's also reasonable, or you could sit down and have a conversation with him and negotiate how much is reasonable for you and him, like bargin. I hope this helped :) Rebecca

If you are truly serious about leaning. Go buy a set of turntables. it will be the best investment ever. Don't do CDJ or any PC interface. all you need are 2 turntables, a mixer and a few records

You can pick up a pair of Technics 1200's and a mixer for around 1000 if you look properly. it is the best way to learn about it. I started out with a pair of crappy tables and have switched my DJ rig 3 times since then and absolutely love it. Aman B

Find someone who is attending your wedding that doesn't mind helping you. It would be really bad if something went wrong and you didn't have any music! You're best bet is to have a friend who knows more about this than you do and ask them if you can put them in charge of making sure it works. karli r
